Working with Windows SmartScreen

This is a beta release — an early version we’re still testing. It is not digitally signed yet. So it’s treated as an unknown app, and Windows SmartScreen warns you before it installs. That’s normal for a beta app. Follow the steps below to continue.

The beta holds all the same functions and features as the Chrome extension.

Installation steps

  1. Download Wurding for Windows (beta). The file is called Wurding-Setup.exe.
  2. If you downloaded it with Microsoft Edge, it may flag the file with a warning, since it isn’t yet widely downloaded. This is just a warning — no action needs to be taken.Microsoft Edge's download warning
  3. Run the downloaded file. Windows shows a screen titled Windows protected your PC.
Click More info. The “Windows protected your PC” warning
  4. Click Run anyway. You only see this once.“More info” showing the “Run anyway” button
  5. Setup then runs like any other application. Install it into any folder you like - it requires only 36MB of disk space. That folder holds the dictionary and your settings.

Your first run

Wurding opens in a small window. It stays on top of your other windows, so it can sit beside your draft. It never steals your focus or breaks your flow. The right word is there when you want it.

You can change how the Wurding window behaves. Open the settings menu in the top right corner, and adjust as needed.

Wurding Pro

Wurding itself is free to use — including definitions on click and each word’s age (when known). Pro gives you the rest of the book: more than double the words, up to fifteen neighbors on each axis, and a list of saved favorites. Pro costs $7 a month, or $60 a year.

Pro results in the app

Pro needs an account. There is no password to set or lose. You sign in with a link sent to your email.
